Core Web Vitals 2026: LCP, INP and CLS Targets — And How To Hit Them

Core Web Vitals are the three core metrics Google uses to measure user experience: LCP, INP and CLS.

LCP (Largest Contentful Paint)

The load time of the largest piece of content in the visible viewport. Target: under 2.5 seconds. Improve it with image lazy loading, CSS critical path optimization, and faster server response times.

INP (Interaction to Next Paint)

The time from a user’s first interaction to the screen updating. It replaced FID. Target: under 200ms. Lower it with JavaScript optimization and third-party script minimization.

CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift)

Unexpected layout shifts that occur while a page loads. Target: under 0.1. Fix it by setting width/height on images, using font-display: swap, and reserving fixed space for dynamic content.

Every site we deliver passes all three metrics — it’s written into the contract.
